JSC “Energy Company of Ukraine” (ECU) and UGB (Ukrgasbank) have formalized a cooperation agreement under the new accreditation mechanism for electricity traders. ECU is proud to be the first energy supplier officially recommended by the bank as a trusted partner for businesses and municipalities planning to commercialize generated green electricity.
The accreditation process involves a comprehensive assessment of energy companies’ operational metrics, after which Ukrgasbank publishes the verified data in a publicly accessible registry on its website.
As one of the top two offtakers of green electricity in Ukraine’s energy market, ECU collaborates closely with leading domestic and international investors in renewable energy (RES). The company delivers a full spectrum of services to solar, wind, and bioenergy facilities operating on the free electricity market, including:
- Guaranteed off-take of 100% green electricity based on forecast schedules and market prices;
- Optimization of electricity imbalances within ECU’s balancing group – the largest in Ukraine;
- End-to-end client management, enabling partners to operate without establishing their own trading infrastructure.
ECU was also among the pioneers in the Ukrainian energy market to offer green generation contracts (pre-PPA) for wind and solar projects at the design stage, facilitating earlier investment certainty.
Furthermore, as an operator of distributed generation, ECU provides comprehensive support to businesses and local communities in developing energy capacities for their own consumption needs.
“Advancing green energy is a strategic pillar of Ukraine’s energy security. As leaders in our respective fields, ECU and UGB are leveraging all available resources and shared expertise to provide green generation investors with maximum opportunities to operate in the electricity market and build new facilities. Our integrated financing solutions and enhanced green electricity sales capabilities underpin investment reliability and contribute to the sustainable growth of Ukraine’s energy sector and broader economy,” emphasized Vitaly Butenko, CEO of ECU.
ECU is an active member of the Ukrainian Wind Energy Association and the Solar Energy Association of Ukraine, and collaborates with other organizations committed to advancing the renewable energy sector.

As a distributed generation operator, ECU partners with communities and businesses to enhance energy security and operational efficiency. The concept of an Operator of Distributed Generation was developed by ECU and approved by Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council in August 2024 as part of the country’s Distributed Generation Development Strategy through 2035 (Cabinet of Ministers’ Order No. 713-r, July 2024). ECU is fully state-owned and managed by the State Property Fund of Ukraine.
