ECU Strengthens Innovation Focus to Advance Distributed Generation: Emanuele Volpe Joins the Team

Emanuele Volpe, one of Ukraine's leading experts in energy innovation, has joined the team of the Energy Company of Ukraine (ECU) as an Advisor to the CEO. In this role, he will lead the scouting and integration of cutting-edge technologies into ECU’s operations and drive the implementation of innovative solutions in the field of distributed energy generation. Emanuele will also contribute to cooperation with international stakeholders, investors, and donors to bring in global expertise and partnerships for the adoption of advanced technologies in this area.

With over 20 years of experience in energy innovation, Emanuele has spent the past eight years in Ukraine, where he successfully launched and delivered more than 60 pioneering projects in collaboration with startups from over 20 countries. In 2018, he established and led the innovation unit at DTEK Group.

Before relocating to Ukraine, Emanuele spent a decade leading innovation initiatives at the global energy company Enel. He also managed projects at HIRSCH Group and Amec Foster Wheeler in the machinery, oil and gas sector. He holds a degree in Aerospace Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Milan (Italy).

ECU is a key electricity supplier to Ukraine’s strategic enterprises, one of the country’s largest importers of electricity from the EU, and the operator of both the largest state balancing group and the national aggregated group that supports the development of distributed generation. The company oversees the full lifecycle of new generation projects – ensuring their rapid and efficient integration into the national energy system while offering comprehensive market tools to maximize their economic performance. ECU’s clients contribute approximately 10% of Ukraine’s GDP.
