Services for Prosumers

JSC "Energy Company of Ukraine" helps Ukrainian businesses and enterprises with their own electricity generation capacities acquire prosumer status. This enables them to achieve energy independence at minimal cost.

Operating Model

To attain prosumer status, a business or enterprise has to sign a contract with ECU under the self-generation mechanism, which serves as an addendum to the electricity supply contract.

Once this contract is signed, ECU will purchase any surplus electricity generated by the client. If the client’s own electricity is insufficient on certain days or at specific times, ECU will supply the necessary volumes under market conditions.

This approach enables businesses and enterprises to enhance the reliability of their energy supply by developing their own generation capacity while minimizing operational costs and reducing the return on investment in equipment.

What is a Prosumer?

A prosumer is an entity that consumes and generates electricity, and/or engages in energy storage activities, and/or sells surplus electricity generated or stored, as long as these activities are not the primary business or professional focus. A consumer attains prosumer status upon signing a power purchase agreement under the self-generation mechanism, which serves as an addendum to the electricity supply contract.

How to Become a Prosumer

01.

The entity must connect its electricity-generating equipment to the energy grid, establish commercial electricity metering, and obtain a distribution point passport that specifies the parameters for the generating or energy storage installation.

02.

The entity must sign a power purchase agreement under the self-generation mechanism (an addendum to the electricity supply contract). This can be done by either signing a new electricity supply contract (for new clients) or amending the existing contract (for current clients).

03.

The installed capacity of the prosumer's generating installations must not exceed the consumption capacity specified in the connection agreement with the distribution system operator.

04.

The allowable electricity output (sale) to the grid by a prosumer under the self-generation mechanism (excluding household and small non-household consumers), including generating and energy storage installations owned by third parties, must not exceed 50% of the prosumer’s agreed-upon consumption capacity.
